The group travels four hours by private transport to Capuliyoc at 2,915 m.a.s.l., the starting point of the trek. On arrival, the cook serves breakfast while the muleteer organizes the equipment and loads the horses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Capuliyoc offers the first viewpoint of the route, with direct views of the Wayna Cachora and Padrayoc snowcapped peaks, both above 5,400 m.a.s.l. The area is covered in native vegetation: begonias, orchids, cacti and bromeliads line the path, and hummingbirds, quetzals and toucans are frequently spotted during the early morning hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The walk begins around 9:30 am with three hours of continuous descent into the Apur\u00edmac Canyon. The path winds downward through dense vegetation of bromeliads, orchids and bamboo to Playa Rosalinas, on the banks of the Apur\u00edmac River at 1,550 m.a.s.l., the lowest point of the entire route. Lunch is served here around 1:00 pm, followed by a rest stop with tea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the break, the most demanding stretch of the day begins: a two-hour steep ascent to the Santa Rosa campsite at 2,050 m.a.s.l. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will begin our hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will start hiking around 8:30 am. The trail will be uphill with a gradual ascent for approximately 3 hours until we reach the area known as Marampata (2,850 meters above sea level \/ 9,350 feet), where we will take a break and enjoy impressive views of the Apur\u00edmac Canyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a well-deserved rest, we will continue hiking for about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the campsite area (3,000 meters \/ 9,843 feet), located very close to the Choquequirao Archaeological Site. We expect to arrive at the campsite around 12:30 pm. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our cook. Later, we will have time to rest and leave our backpacks in our comfortable tents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the afternoon, we will walk only 10 minutes to reach the incredible Choquequirao Archaeological Site (3,050 meters \/ 10,007 feet), where we will spend practically the entire afternoon exploring this mysterious Inca site. Our professional guide will explain the history of the place, which remained abandoned and forgotten until a few years ago. It was only when tourism began in the area that exploration efforts truly started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, only about 50% of the city has been uncovered, and many of its secrets are still waiting to be discovered. During our guided visit, we will explore the most important areas, such as the main plaza, sacred temples, Inca houses, storehouses (granaries), the ceremonial sector and its altars, the famous agricultural terraces, and the remarkable llama sector, where the builders represented this sacred animal on massive stone walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will also enjoy a beautiful sunset over the mountains, and if we are lucky, we may see condors soaring above the valley. Around 6:00 am, we will wake up, and after breakfast, we will start the most challenging day of the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day begins with a 30-minute uphill hike toward Abra Choquequirao. We will follow a beautiful trail surrounded by lush vegetation through the Cloud Forest (Montane Forest). As we continue, the weather will gradually become warmer. Along the route, we will stop at an area known as Palmayoc, where we will enjoy our lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After lunch and a short rest, we will continue along sections with impressive cliffs. The views in this area are incredible, and we will walk surrounded by native forests and bamboo. The trail will then lead us to Abra San Juan (4,150 meters \/ 13,615 feet). From this stunning viewpoint, we will enjoy breathtaking landscapes and admire an impressive group of mountains such as Sacsarayoc, Pumasillo, and Choquetecarpo, all with peaks rising above 5,000 meters (16,404 feet).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After taking photos and enjoying a well-deserved rest at San Juan Pass, we will begin a 3-hour descent to the bottom of the valley near the farming community of Yanama (3,375 meters \/ 11,072 feet), which we expect to reach around 4:00 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon arrival in Yanama, our vehicle will be waiting to take us on a 2-hour drive to our lodge located in the Sahuayaco area. Afterward, just 5 minutes from the lodge, we will take part in a Coffee Experience Tour. This activity lasts approximately 1 hour and takes place on a local farm owned by one of the residents of the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this unique experience, you will be accompanied by a coffee expert who will teach you the entire coffee production process. You will learn hands-on how to harvest, wash, peel, dry, roast, grind, brew, and taste delicious organic coffee prepared by yourself. It is truly a unique and unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the coffee experience, we have two options to continue our journey:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Option 1: Hiking via Llactapata<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will hike for about 1 hour to reach the Lucmabamba sector, where an original Inca Trail begins. From here, we will hike uphill for approximately 2 hours until reaching the Llactapata Archaeological Site. The trail passes through lush cloud forest, featuring abundant vegetation and a wide variety of orchids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Llactapata, your guide will explain the history and importance of this site during Inca times. From here, we will have a distant view of Machu Picchu. After a well-deserved rest, we will descend for about 1 hour and 30 minutes to the Aobamba Valley. We will cross an ancient bridge and then continue walking on flat terrain for another 30 minutes until we reach the Hydroelectric Station at approximately 1:00 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Option 2: Visit to Cocalmayo Hot Springs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a traveler feels tired and prefers not to hike this section, there is a second option: traveling by vehicle from the lodge to the Hydroelectric Station. Along the way, we can stop at the Cocalmayo Hot Springs, arriving around 9:00 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, you will enjoy the thermo-medicinal waters for approximately 2 hours. This site is located in a beautiful subtropical jungle setting and features three large pools with crystal-clear water emerging from underground springs. The water temperature ranges between 38\u00b0C and 45\u00b0C (100\u00b0F\u2013113\u00b0F).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These medicinal waters are believed to help with skin conditions, rheumatism, and joint pain, while also providing natural hydrotherapy and relaxation. After enjoying this relaxing experience, we will continue by vehicle to the Hydroelectric Station, where we will have lunch at a local restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After lunch (for both options), we will continue hiking along the banks of the Urubamba River for approximately 3 hours until reaching the town of Aguas Calientes. Along the way, you will be able to admire the peaks of the Sacred Mountains, Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu. The trail follows the railway tracks, and around 5:30 pm we will arrive in Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a comfortable hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dinner will be served at a tourist restaurant. We will begin our final and unforgettable day very early in order to reach Machu Picchu and have the opportunity to enjoy the sunrise over the citadel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After breakfast, we will leave our hotel at 6:00 am and walk to the bus station (2,000 meters above sea level). From there, we will take a 30-minute bus ride along a zigzagging road up to the Inca Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (2,400 meters above sea level).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon arrival at this incredible site, we will begin our guided tour, which lasts approximately 2 hours and is led by our professional guide. During the tour, your guide will explain the history of the site while visiting the most fascinating and magical sectors that have made Machu Picchu one of the Wonders of the World.
