We will also visit the Sun Gate, known locally as Inti Punku, situated at the summit of Cachicata. According to oral tradition, it was a sacred place of spiritual retreat and offering to the gods.

Itinerary

DETAILED ITINERARY

Our tour begins with pickup from your hotel at 5:00 a.m., after which we head by private tourist transport to the town of Ollantaytambo, approximately a 1 hour and 30 minute drive. Upon arriving at this small and picturesque town, we will stop to enjoy a good breakfast at a local restaurant, pick up hydrating drinks and snacks, and use the restroom facilities.

After breakfast, we will continue for approximately 10 more minutes by transport to the area known as Inca Bridge, the starting point of the trek. Here your guide will give you an introduction with recommendations and safety tips before setting off. The trek begins gradually and then involves an ascent of approximately 4 hours up to the Cachicata Quarries. This path follows the original route used by the Incas to transport stone blocks from the quarry down to build one of the most famous archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley: the Fortress of Ollantaytambo.

Upon arrival, we will enjoy a box lunch and, after a well-deserved rest, explore the Cachicata Quarries. You will be able to appreciate the remains of Inca tombs, impressive stonework, and the ramps used to transport the blocks to Ollantaytambo. Your guide will explain the process of stone extraction and transportation.

After visiting the quarries, we will continue ascending for 1 more hour to the sector known as the Sun Gate or Inti Punku, an enigmatic site oriented toward Mount Verónica and used as a spiritual center during the Inca period. You will have free time to photograph and explore this magical place.

After enjoying a quiet moment in contact with nature, we will begin our descent back, approximately a 3 hour downhill walk to the village of Cachicata, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 6:00 p.m.
